Omaha/3

Prior Post

8th June PM:

During the night the Allies make a daring night attack into the woods and are successful. During the night replacement and further reinforcements are brough to the beach. The 1st Div has suffered heavy losses.

In the morning weather is over cast and the Americans press on despite a lack of air cover.

Arty moves to support the flanking move toware Grandcamp. While the Rangers approach Longueville supported by the 29th. Time is of the essence, and Trevieres is still a long way away!

The 716th falls to a attack by tanks and infantry clearing the road and blocking retreat for the Pioneers from the 352nd

For some reason I get fixated on the units near Port -en-Bessin. But as long as they are covered, or screened we need stronger units headed towards Trevieres.

The Pio 352nd blocks the way… It has to go!

German orders are to stand and fight at all costs. Meanwhile a recon unit and a tank company seek to cut supply. Its then I remember that its not that important in this scenario. But as I look at the map I see a way to gain the objectives by the 10th [ it’s the middle of the 9th now]

With 2nd Division pouring onto the beach and immediately into the fight they take on some heavy lifting fighting the 352nd while the 29th Division takes replacements and tanks to try and capture its primary objective. The HQ for the 29th moves up closer to the action.

This allows the 19th recon unit to recce south of the marshes and on towards the un protested VC location.

Gamey as hell!! But it worked.

That leaves just a large river assault to conduct, with a huge arty barrage the 352, reels and retreats. It took two assaults to knock them out. Here below we see the situation just before advance after combat.

END STATE Night of June 9th This meets the success criteria for the Scenario.:

*End note, while the unit is OOS that captured the hexes, y the end of the next turn it would have been in supply given where the 29th HQ is. Hence we called the scenario at this point, as we had a full turn to ensure that action.
