North Africa Turn 5

At the top of the turn, the Allies pick up one of their few resource points.

The immediately look to fortify Gambut airfield.

They also continue to use delaying tactics by pressing tanks into the maw. West of Gazala and Bir Hacheim.

This costs us two more battalions of tanks. In the German 1st Impulse.

We fall back int eh 2nd impulse, I’m pretty confident the Axis wont rush for the 3rd airfield. But we need to be sure, as this will bump me up to -2 VP and make the long game harder for the Axis. So sacrificing units now is what we have to do.

The Axis make a surprise move South. Is he going for Sidi Barrani. He hinted at it? But it feels like a ploy. However. I have ‘nothing there! I’m over weight on Tobruk. It might be time to drop a Brigade back to cover Halfaya at the least. Turn 6 I have reinforcements coming, and they can start building up on the Eastern side of the pass.

I take a pounding in the 2nd Impulse and go full retreat. It rally looks like he wants to bypass Tobruk! In the3rd impulse he does all TM moves to earn a SP. The spare two trucks I have should have been kept up front….to allow me to pivot and load up and reduce force levels in Tobruk. Not sure how I could however, I have just 4 units there.

We earned a final bomb run, and took out the last Port Cap for Benghazi.

Its now JUNE I turn, top of turn 6. German VPs sit at -3

My dead pile is scary. I do have 2 air units, but can really only use them on offense until such time that the air superiority flips.

I think the smart thing to do is to let the Axis take their third airfield in due course, as it evolves. Fall back and re group a bit. He will be stuck at -3 or 4 VP, when he captures the 3rd airbase. I can then build up, keep the fourth so he stays at -3or -4 and then counter retake the base East of Tobruk and drive the VP tally down.

So maybe Tobruk is NOT that important?
