SCS: Autumn for Barbarossa [Vassal] p2/2

Part 2 of 2 Autumn for Barbarossa opposed replay

Germans roll 5 for Air in turn 5. They are closing on Smolensk but the Soviets are gumming up the works.

The German inflict 2 step losses and 4 out of 5 DG’s. Nice!

The Axis are much more aggressive this turn. They realize the clock is ticking.

They continue the attacks, but sometimes lady luck smiles. This 2-5-5 below has stymied the Germans for 3 turns now.

And of course this doesn’t hurt! The Germans are taking a pasting trying to get the last riverline city.

Now in Turn 6 the Soviet have air and man are they going to use it! 1. To DG potential attacking units and 2 to weaken the enemy so they can be attacked. It is not a know fact to me that the Soviets had this much air at this stage of the war!

Is this accurate dear readers?

The planned attacks below:

Ohh wow. The Soviets snap 4 step kills from their gloriously resurrected air force!

With the DG’s in place they now plan attacks. Can you see where they will focus below?

Lots of opportunities.

The Soviets focus on the DG’d armour and infantry units North of Smolensk. This potentially threatens their supply and also slows down their own efforts to encircle Smolensk

Boom a solid result. We now have a 14 mile wide gap! But….what? The Germans in good sportsmanship mode concede defeat acknowledging that the Soviet player this time is #TGWE [ The Greatests Wargamer Everrrrrrrrr] .

The resulting turns would be a series of shallow attacks without enough force to garner control of Smolensk nor to dig much deeper into the required total of VPs needed via capture cities.

Interesting that the HUGE Soviet air arrival had a massive impact on this game result, which perhaps could have progressed maybe 2 more turns before concession. I’m almost inclined to suggest SOVIET AIR is 1D6/2 with a minimum of 1 being made available and rounding up on odd numbers.
