Exploring Combat – Line of Battle

Line of Battle: To Take Washington.
Johnston’s’ men from the 5th and 12th North Carolina pass their closing rolls and then they also pass their charge roll.
An opening volley from the defenders fails to slow them there are no other units able to provide opening volley supporting fire.
The charge now occurs. This is a simple process where the defendant takes a step loss automatically and then execute a morale check. That morale check is 2D6 you adjust this roll based upon size differential and the two leaders moral leadership value differential this then provides a final result looked up on the appropriate Morale rating column..
In this case the defender rolled a 7 and added five a result of 12 which means that they are disorganized, have to retreat 4, [b4] and will suffer and incremental additional step loss L1.
Very very clean, provides much of the “process” or historically based steps we might expect and we have seen in other games and yet resolves in a fraction of the time, with understandable results and a ability to estimate what might occur. Far less swingy than a lot of ACW systems I have seen to date.
