Bastille Day Symbols over reality

Why the fuss?

The masses, ‘stormed’ the symbolic political prison, despite there being no one of significance there. The overwhelming of the ‘invalides’ [old guards] of which just one died was achieved at the cost of 90 lives.

Now traditionally this place which was due to be shut down was a fortress used by the Monarchy to imprison its subjects that disagreed with them politically. Thus its importance as a symbol of oppression.

Well that and the 30,000 pounds of gunpowder stored there that would allow the arming of the rebellion.

A monarchy fell only to be replaced with a different form of repressive government, ruled by equally violent and sadistic souls.
