August II/Turn 11
Axis 3rd Impulse
Italians attack and earn a A1 result in their assault on Tobruk.
Further East the recon units battle it out and the South African retreat under pressure.
End turn 11
The Allies fall back on the Escarpment and will need to build forts to cover the South in turn 12-13. The Commonwealth needs to hold Sidi Barrani until the end of Oct I for a guaranteed victory. So, I probably retreated from Tobruk a month early, but with withdrawals and losses the ability to hold the line around Sollum is not feasible. Its all a bit touch and go.
Both sides lose a SP in Tobruk zone at turn end. No VP change. It stays at -5.
September I, 1941.
Another hot month, only two impulses again.
Three units are removed for the Allies, one of which is the Aussie stuck in Tobruk. But the Kiwis are released. I only have one truck in the Nile! So we truck one and rail one. ½ we will get next Impulse. Big mistake.
I also need to rebalance the defenses. I have too many factors in certain hexes.
I continue my strategy of pressing units forward especially the recon guys. In and around Bir Dignaish and Bir el Khamsa and the triangle made by the edge of the escarpment.
The Germans spend a SP to mount a series of attacks. Any poor tactics on my part are mitigated by his horrid rolling.
The SA units get a d1, which is fine they head for home having done their job. But 21st Panzers drive is stumped, by a 1, then Rommel intervenes and he rolls, ANOTHER 1. Thank you, VASSAL. I happily take the exchange. All is not lost for the Axis, but it will make him more cautious. He has a repl nearby.
Next up my third Impulse for turn 12 and we look pretty good. Ge will want to re arm and recharge, before trying for Sidi. This means that attacks on it cannot happen until at best mid to late turn 13 or hopefully early Oct I.
