The Deadly Woods

I ran a session of this game from Revolution Games:

Like the setup charts, and the reinforcement tracks and related counter markings. Setup takes a fair while -30-45 minutes.

Due to a number of sneaky rules I overlooked on more than one occasion I’d suggest you get the summary chart from BGG to help you track ALL of the turn 1 special rules [ hey its a bulge game after all ] . That and the spreadout rules layout of combat mods had me re start twice.

So pay attention to turn one and two.

Overall the rules are fine, its a very simple game modelled after the Dark Valley system of chit pulls. But more on that as we go. Its a high level and I would say abstract representation of the battle with a significant number of ‘design for effect rules and assumptions’.

Germans press as hard as they can damn the losses.

Then combat:

Start of Turn 2:

Wide open above but tough terrain.

Below we see that the Germans took 3 activations.

Its two maximum consecutively.

So assuming we played reaction – We might have gotten an Allied unit or units closer to thwart  the Germans

As it is the Germans romped through here and it will require more skill than i showed and some better dice for the Allies in order for them to win!

We do the same again here:
