This is a huge expanse! As always it boggles the mind does it not!?
Feels like a BIG- The Russian Campaign!
The Germans are faced with aggressive city capture goals to score an early win. In turn 1 they require 4 VP’s and these are to be achieved with just the one week turn not a full 2 week turn.
Not likely. Unless lady luck shines hard.
In the North the Untried Soviet divisions are side by side and shoulder to shoulder.
Will luck prevail and allow some easy attacks? So that we can establish the Germans for a big push Turn 2 & 3.
IF we cannot secure these high rates of city VP’s perhaps we can wipe out so many Russians that they have nothing to fight back with?
In the center 3 armies face off but are in admittedly horrible position, jutting out in a salient. IF a fast road to Minsk can be found early VPs can be secured. That said Minsk is worth just 1 VP. Kiev further south is worth 2.
The AGS has its work cut out for it with layers of Soviet Divisions arrayed in ‘Stalin Forts’
Further South still is 11th Army and the immovable RO army on turn 1. Only Odessa presents itself as a juicy target. it however was historically tough to capture quickly.
What this likely means is that the Germans need to plan for either a Turn 4 Auto Victory if they are optimistic OR look at the longer game and a fast paced traditional rush to Moscow for the BIG WIN!!! :). Despite the fact that it is teeming with Divisions.
The rule book reads well, but I sense some significant subtleties in the rules around Prepared Attacks, Reserves, Mobile Assaults and Counter Attack tokens. Some more details on actual movement plans and attack goals for AGN/C/S once we get under weigh and we dont let the enemy know out plan!
Have you played Proud Monster Deluxe from Compass Games?
What did you think of it and what strategies for both sides work the best!?
