In phase two the next set of landing craft race to the beach on tight schedules. Stacking limits begin to impact who can come and when! In the phases after one, the Germans can move slightly more each phase. Showing their response to the evolving crisis.
During Phase two the Germans take out 3 more companies of US troops at White Dog, Red Dog and Easy Red.
The same happens during the return fire portion for the Allies they wipe out 3 more strong points. They do clear Dog Red and Easy Green, but a vicious counter attack allows the Germans to recapture the Village.
By the end of Phase three 2 additional pillboxes and 2 combat units join the dead pile but losses of 4 more steps of men and material are wiped out.
Several units do not make it to shore, nor do the Tank Battalions that we held back. They now will need to come in at night and in follow on turns.
The Rangers & 3/175 attack II/916/352, the 2/175/29 attacks the 14.PAK unit, 3/26/1 takes on I.III.Flak and 1&2/18/1 assault II/726/716.
The results are 1/1 step a piece lost, the elimination of the 14.Pak, 2 steps off 3/26/1 and a retreat [where we conduct the retreat incorrectly] and finally 2 stes off the units from 71th Division which eliminates it.
The US now in its mech move phase pushes out a little to screen the infantry and the beachhead designated hex.
The Germans counter attack at 4:1 and roll a NO EFFECT!!! the recon troop elude disaster!
During the AM turn of the 7th of June 1st Division receives orders to press on St. Honorine and the 1st & 2nd Bns from 18th Regiment of the 1st Div take up positions on the Aure river.
29th attack Vierville again in force, and elect to hold around Colevill as the 745th and other units arrive to support them.
From what I can ascertain of the rules, we now only use the single Assault hex designated as the Beachhead to bring units in, but stacking is now 4 units high.
In the PM section of the 7th disaster strikes. the Attack at Russy earns 2 step loss and retreat. Once again I retreat too far. A similarly horrible attack occurs at Formigny. the Germans are proving to be very challenging. The 741st and 745th Tank Bns cover the retreats and we re assess our plan for landward expansion.
Next June 7th Night and June 8th
