Reserve US arty – USMC 11/1 pummels the Chines. [boxcars and a 6 to boot] force step loss.
North of Chosin/Changin the HQ arty misses.
The Chinese attack in combat phase goes poorly. A 3:1 In the mountains, further weakened by a horrible supply. Drops down to 1:3 AL1o1/DO1 . A very, very poor start.
Turn 2
US Initiative, and flight is good to go. US airpower will demonstrate this turn.
They start out with 4 trainbusting attacks, of which 3 end up having an impact [even with double rolls per module rules!].
1Marine consolidates. 7th Div moves south past Kapsan and 7/Tk reinforces 7/3.
Turn 3
PRC Initiative and No Flight!
Arty strikes during barrage phase prior to combat knock a step off and DG enemy US forces. Killing Tk step.
PRC attack alone the road to Sudong. Picking up a 4:1 attack with no surprise. Ao1/Do1…The PRC take a loss and US retreats.
Up deep in the Chosin, Arty fires and Dg’s USMC forces. They boxcar and roll a 6! That is two this turn. The Marines are gunna die. The odds end up at 18:1. Ao1/DL1. Yep. There is a minus one on the combat roll for AR rating differences, but that does not help.
US turn and they re dress the lines, ensuring no breakthrus.
Turn 4
US Initiative and Flight is on. The US counter attacks. After a cross mountain march 3rd and USMC smash the enemy, and DG adjacent forces. Hipshoots from F4’s and others pummel the Chinese. The 80th Chinese Division is hurting.
US arty and air attack 20th Army HQ stack and trainbust.
This attack has 6:1 due to DG, and tops out at max odds due to another successful surprise roll. Earning an Ae4/DL1o2 !!
Boom.
US forces advance into the hex, but the Marines hold and will use Exploit movement to get onto the trail !!
In a desperate attempt to push the envelope during he PRC turn they not only lose 2 steps due to attrition and not enough supply to eat off the map, they re shuffle forces to bring power to bear.
Turn 5
PRC initiative and no flight!
PRC force their luck and attempt to get back into supply. With a terrible AL2 result!
Up the Chosin the US are hammered backwards. But at too slow a pace to allow a victory in two turns. PRC concedes defeat.
