Lepel EFS Part 2

Top of Turn 9 the first full activation for the German attackers in Lepel a scenario set in Army Group Center and its push to head East and capture Smolensk.

18r Motorized and 12th Pzr combine forces and after a few adjustments attempt to clear the way to Polotsk, on the SW side and attack into fortifications. With all reinforcement headed North to support taking Polotsk.

20th Pzr attacks the NKVD unit to the East of Polotsk so the town can be enveloped.

Elements of 20th Mot. And Pzr recon units attempt to overrun and fail in map center.

17th Pzr attacks 16 Tk while 18th Pzr attack 57th Tk.

7th Panzer does a successfully overrun which puts it next to the strong point and allows an attack in the coming Combat Phase.

Air goes in for both sides. Soviets are largely ineffectual.

Attack results:

The Motorized phase allows the Germans to consolidate its grip on Vitebsk and Polotsk.

The Soviet turns sees them bring more infantry to the fight.

The Soviets forgo their mandatory attacks, ceding two VP.

They do place as many units as possible to force expensive soak off attacks.

In the south there is little the Soviet can do, as the Germans cannot effect a break thru there. In hind sight the Soviet play may want to shift more forces North.

Polotsk only has 7 factors on defense.

Vitebsk 6.

In the final turn the last two attacks both rolls a 6 but have decent modifiers for Divisional Integrity and the Soviets are forced out of their defensive locations and abandon the VP locations. Polotsk earns a 3R and falls.

Nets a similar result. The soak offs generate 3 German step losses.

The German forces cannot be dislodge from the two primary town/cities so we call the game at that point.

A good one to practice using massed formations and armor.

Glad I got this back to the table.
