The Lemmings are bidding! $64.00, for Crusaders Kingdoms….for an indeterminately sized double sided board. an unknown number of cards in two decks and some block bits {possibly 60? with 4 factions in the game and 16 or so spaces on a board] .
While this KS is successful and very small (currently $24k), I find it an outrageous asking price for whats in the box and what is unknown for the KS.
oh wait.. +12 shipping. So they want to charge what surely must be FULL RETAIL, get your MONEY NOW and have you wait until is manufactured, produced and then shipped.
No demo.
No actual game components just art renders.
No rules review/download.
Now when Other publishers, talk about ‘too many publishers making too many games that dont sell’..maybe this is what they mean.
But wait Kev, dont be so harsh… You get a dicetower – EXCLUSIVE if you BUY NOW!!!
Well ther eis a picture of one anyway. We dont know how big it is how it is made or much else… So that is a..well yeah..that sure is a hell of a bonus for taking full retail upon clicking support..or not.
181 people think this is a good deal.
One store thinks its a good deal
and sadly 8 rubes ordered two copies.
Based on past performance this game will be available online or on the Worthington store at 50%+ off inside of 6 months.
An Alternate view?
A title like this, light , introductory, and possibly fun, COULD be a fun cross over game. A way to bring more Euro/WarEuro/Ameritrash wargamers into the hobby….but at $64 FREAKING dollars. #FAIL .
It would be interesting to line up all of the games I own that I paid $64, for and do a compare and contrast for components and quality, let alone subjective play value.
Oh and please dont say..”but they are small and do small print runs”….So do many other block game vendors, designers and publishers.
So is it unawareness, hubris, arrogance or just plain greed on display from this publisher?
I debated even posting here, as any press is good press….But this KS from the lads at Worthington takes the cake.
Until we get smart as buyers and supporters, publishers will not learn.
Keep in mind that while the Lock’nLoad Publishing print run was 2000+ copies and weighed in at 17 pounds delivered, it was just $70-ish. With 100’s of counters, dozens of maps and the world is afire on the “wow” factor. So pardon me if I am a bit annoyed when I see this type of kickstarter taking advantage of our hobby.

It is not just this publisher… Kickstarter for board games in general is out of control!
“generally” maybe. But I see games from Vento Nuovo, and LNLP and some others both doing well and providing good to amazing value. The Euro/RPG/ mini’s stuff is insane vs out of control tho!
The truth is often brutal. And lemmings are often the enemy of quality. Great article, Kev.
🙂 Thx Patrick
I guess you won’t get a free copy to demo so I’ll have to wait for a mass-produced Marco vid??? 😉
