I had pondered this, but am always cautious on the area movement games as they always seem to lean “abstract” to me. I commend Train on making games on obscure topics, but have never purchased one as I felt the same as you – they were more geared towards the ‘soft aspects’ of war and not the kinetic actions which is honestly why I wargame. 🙂
Enjoy the rat hunt! LOL
Your bad mood there is palpable, maybe it would have been better to take up Yaah!’s latest issue-game Rattenkrieg?? For me the game is a plenty good value and genuine replayability is no small thing. (I have often noticed that my mood affects my experience and judgment of movies much more than I am willing to admit.)
good point, and on point. Which is why I mentionedit. So maybe everyone can take the grumpy old guy with a grain of salt!
Brian said he were trying to capture the spirit of the old SPI quad games. Those usually had one classic great game, one dog game, and 2 “meh!” games. Maybe Compass captured the spirit too closely?
Maybe! But let’s face reality – SPI needs to stay where it is : in the 70s and in a nostalgia / unplayed pile! 🙂
I think, again using Movies for comparison, we can lose sight of just how hard it is to make a truly good “movie,” so many things have to come together — and they are SO MUCH WORK!
