218 BC Summer
At the very beginning in 218BC you see Hannibal’s Carthaginian army split up, Hamilcar goes to Genoa and uses diplomacy to secure the city this puts Liguria under their control under they then move then move into the hex of Longus. Hanno takes cavalry only and moves to Mutina and attempts to convert it with diplomacy, but is also rebuffed.
Hamilcar converts Cromona then goes to Placentia to support Hanno his diplomatic overtures are rebuffed in Placentia. Hannibal attacks with all his forces then combined in the location against Longus who fails in his efforts to withdraw and will be forced to fight while also having to forage and will be forced to fight in the combat phase against a significant force.
The combat shakes out like this: 48 factors versus 15 factors because the Romans must allocate 5 factors to forage this creates a 3:1combat we roll at 6 which is the highest if you roll a 6 which is the highest number you can roll this causes 7 steps to be lost by the defender, however the defender only has 4 steps the entire army is eliminated.
A few niggling points; may a unit that begins its movement phase in the same hex as the enemy leave it or move? That is unclear. What happens to a leader after a combat when all the units are eliminated? Note that there are also not enough markers there are also not enough markers for all of the cities on the map.
