Engage More Closely
WAW85.
Scenario #11.
WG is reeling. But looking to slow and engage a formation coming from the South in the overall WW3 campaign. The Hessich-Lichtenau cross roads are key to preventing the Southern encirclement effort by the Soviets of the city of Kessel.
Game VC’s- Above. Both sides need to exit units and control opposing ‘city hex’. Most exits win. A meeting engagement. NATO arrives SW corner. Soviet arrives NE and SE.
The Soviets, want to bring their A units up against the smaller WG force of 5 platoons quickly. While simultaneously screening the Northern approach until the slower, less effective T-55’s and T-62’s can swap places with the Tank Regiment. Its cumbersome…. But there is no time limit. So if the Soviets are careful they can do this and then throw 10 platoons vs 5, and have the T-62’s harass the M1’s.
NATO has a simple plan. Shoot things. They intend to advance quickly in South with the Leos and hit the MRD tank units hard if they can. Then form a defensive perimeter around the exit and hope to outlast, outshoot and out ‘draw’ formations on the Soviets. Meanwhile the M1’s can be a flank threat and or a exit threat. Then once the Soviets are demolished, the NATO can go for exits and VP’s.
