The beginning of December sees the over extension of the Allied forces become a costly mistake.
Below the 1SA and Indians get into trouble with elements of the Ariete. Who also make their own push against units South East of Bir El Gubi.
While Tobruk is indeed holding, and being for all intents being ignored we keep plinking away with rebuilt supply, and re building units in Tobruk while shooting at Italian units that look like they might be ‘overstacked’ and ripe for a arty assault. The German player has NOT decreased my port cap, and is not trying to get a ZOC on the port to block supply.
Small blessings that compensate for my overly aggressive play, which is bleeding supply and units white.
We are in a full fledged retreat in the western desert. But Im ok, with this, as he is not following up to isolate or cur road supply. The attacks above by the Brits deep into the German rear are another source of annoyance for him, that we hope he will attack, and I can if I’m lucky escape with limited losses.
Then like a bolt from the blue an attack on Tobruk! He knocks a step off, and DG’s my guys. This could get dangerous.
This southern distraction strategy has become very, very expensive…Ouch. I need to pull back and use the wadi as a line of defense and support the rear of the Kiwis facing down the Axis around Sidi Omar!!
I’m really struggling to get supply to the guys, and thankfully he does not know how bad it is!!
December 12th:
Major Allied raid , halts all shipments to Africa for the Axis!
Germans continue some peace meal attacks. I suspect either a lack of supply or a lack of units in reserve to support any real breakthrus.
Tobruk is a stalemate. My opponent has not reduced the shipping value of the port of Tobruk or isolated it yet. This allows me to build up supply and replacements and take pot shots at over stacked units with arty.
His Italians attack the LRDG…hahaha! We laugh. And then counter attack but rather than fighting his units we attack replacement points! Eliminating two. One of my guys goes low ammo, and head back for resupply.
