DAK 2 is a title that is still revered, in some ways more than Case Blue, which is odd, given it is no where near as expensive and you have two versions floating around which are ostensibly the same with a few tweaks. DAK 2 has errata and issues to deal with so save a $100 and grab a 1st edition if you cant spring for DAK 2. It is easily updated and ‘fixed’.
That said the attraction is pretty strong, both side will play offense, both sides have unique challenges, and both sides will struggle to win…well sort of, as their really are no true Victory Conditions. Yep.
This has to be one of my favorite Afrikan Campaign titles.
A big map, not a lot of counters, but many, many specific and special rules. Shipping challenges, Malta invasion, the Greece campaign, unconditioned equipment and troops, KG leaders and specific Rommel and Commonwealth leaders. That is the easy stuff. Then we have a massive and superbly cool random events table and a swag of special optional rules.
We will kick off with Mussolinis, lukewarm ‘invasion’ of Egypt.
I use this XLS below to monitor the turns, and track Tripoli dump rot [told ya], port repair, Malta roll mods, the major events and a host of smaller items that are easy to lose track of.
Sidi Barrani must be captured by a date certain, and the Italians must cross the Mussolini line [orange line on map] and garrison the outskirts of the border. This sets up the Italians for the beating from O’Conner, the eventual withdrawal and siege /capture of Tobruk. If history repeats it self!
Looking forward to getting going on this just as soon as the Edge of the World scenario wraps up on vassal!
UPDATE 2019:
WE have agreed to play the Campaign from the German entry vs messing with the Italian flight.
I think the victory conditions may be some of my favorite ever. Essentially “you’ll know it when you see it, combined with don’t be a wuss”
