Flight is nominal this turn. The CCF have initiative. But debate taking it. They receive just 4 SP again and 2 PAX, which they save to rebuild broken NORK formations.
They indeed elect to go, not wanting to give the UN any breathing space what so ever. Especially since they used a lot of air last turn and many of their air units will need to refit prior to reaction phase use and thus be out of action for localized CAS.
Above you can see the assault on the Commonwealth forces which earns them a kill step in exchange for ne of their own, and a lever across the river. The attacks going in and around Sinon-ju are critical for the CCF. If they can be successful it will break open the US led defence. The same goes for the fight for Sunchon.
These attacks end up successful due to good arty and massed attacks. The CCF cut the road to Jungnam in the North, further isolating the Marins in the Chosin. Kang Dong falls and Singju is occupied. A rough turn for the UN.
The US orders a general movement to the rear. P’yongyang is the new D- Line and the frozen Taedong river is the focal point. The 25th ID form a thin line and reorganize.
Back go the UN defenders:
5th Marine rolls a 12 for attrition! It dies:
The UN really needs initiative next turn. A double turn might help them more than a little!!
Situation overview at the start of December 8th turn:
The UN takes the initiative! They use this time to fall back further towards Wonsan and Seoul. The CCF in tehir turn bring 6SP onboard and quickly route forces covering P’yongYang. They move 10SP into the city.
1XXXX moves towards the Hungnam Port complex ,hoping to cut trace supply for the ROK/Marine contingent.
Supply spent for the hedgehog building now looks like a wise decision. Even if it strains fuel rations and limits movement options.
The CCF forces are surprisingly nimble with the terrain features. Some folks prefer an optional rule that slows down the foot sodliers. Making Hills and Rough 2 MP. That would be an interesting twist, and for sure slow down the game immensely. I do hoever think that the end result is going ot be the same. It is an overwhelming task.
