The big question was for me, prior to cracking the shrink on this recent purchase, which beer would most, and “BESTEST”…..fit the mood for this exquisite little solo game?
I settled on this:
Not a great choice in the end as it was expensive and too sour for my tastes, but it put us in the mood!
This era post 700AD at the ruin that is Post Roman Era and opening of the Medieval Age is historically murky to me.
Here is a summary of Charles the Great: Charlemagne or Charles the Great, numbered Charles I, was King of the Franks from 768, King of the Lombards from 774 and Emperor of the Romans from 800. He united much of Europe during the early Middle Ages. He was the first recognised emperor in western Europe since the fall of the Western Roman Empire three centuries earlier. The expanded Frankish state that Charlemagne founded is called the Carolingian Empire
The game builds upon the Solo title Agricola’s system. But as you can see a larger map, which is wonderfully crafted by Amia. The map is moody, the pieces are thematic and the chart layout is excellent.
I love the corded rope or robe tie linking the areas:
This one clocks in at 20 pages. So a little more detail and investment to learn.
The question will be is it too hard to win or too easy?
Once you grok the rules the charts here in will speed play immensely. You can acquire the game @Hollandspiele
My fortitude is being sorely tested as I’m anxious to get Charlemagne: MoE on the table, but am currently playing (and enjoying!) Agricola: MoB at a relaxed pace.
Thanks for the initial look at this attractive (in more ways than one) game!
