I’ve been messing around with Stalingrad ’42 Case Blue scenario. In the upcoming report starting next week, I’ll be sharing my report from our campaign play. What was disappointing for me was my ‘opening’. Its key for the Axis to come out swinging and not be afraid of losses. Gaining ground, isolating units, and eliminating units turn 1 and two is critical. Especially if you have a desire to try and earn an auto victory.
Is there an optimal attack or set of attacks on the opening turns?
In the North it seems that the Germans can secure at least 2 4:1 attacks, and then it falls to the dice Gods.
Central some 3:1 and maybe a 4:1 attack, then in the South that river line doubles the defender. In this case I tooka risky 1:1 attack and got lucky, pushing back the Soviets, who failed their DD.
What do you do?
How do you approach the process in Stalingrad ’42?
End of Turn 1, Start of turn 2:
End of combat and movement turn 2. Axis turn:
In turn two you are limited to what you can reach as a consequence of what you achieved turn 1. So below we can see that the Axis had a better time of it in the North. While not pocketing anything yet, they have made gains and can potentially isolate units in turn 3. One follow on attack helped them push back the Soviets towards Voronezh. I think in Turn 1 the Soviets should have pulled back from the defensive line where the red circles are.
In the south a weak force hits Rostov seeking a cheap win. Losing a step and dropping a step on the Russians. – Not enough!!
damn when you said case blue i thought 😋
Looks like a very interesting game.
