I’ve been blessed with a recent deluge of flexible, friendly VASSAL players of late. A few weeks ago we had a late night session live. Where we explored the Luneville scenario. I’ve also got a African module Brazen Chariots going, but that is on hold due to my stuff ups, that I need to go back to and correct.
At the open, it seemed prudent to push the screening units of American Cav out of the way and clear them out. So that forces who follow on could attack Luneville.
With some exceptional good rolling on the combat tables we eliminated enemy units! Even better than forcing the retreats. During game play a neat tactic was exposed to me. By placing the Objective marker behind my ‘actual’ objective, this adds flexibility to enable a deeper penetration should the initial attacks succeed. So in the above image we moved the Obj marker to the edge of Luneville.
I had popped this in wrong hex. We moved it 1 to the right, so that we can attack Moncel also.
111 Pz next activation saw them drive through the village, and bounce the HQ’s and savage the units on Hill 341. The CCR and 2nd Cav then went into action and delivered some licks.
15 Panzer Grenadier move up also. Cautious of being caught on open ground. The 111 clears the immediate area and prepares to take the inevitable counter attack.
Thanks for the report. FYI, and it’s not clear to me if you missed this, but an objective can only be placed on an enemy unit or a victory hex. It can’t be placed in “space” to get maximal coverage. Apparently this is a change from the 1.2 rules, where it was found that people were spending too much time and energy gaming the objective placements.
All Objectives were place don a Unit or VP
you are correct and that is what was done.
