I posted this vid a few days ago.
TL:DR – AI is just another tool to add value to my hobby time
This AI topic is becoming a larger thing in our hobby. I suspect we can nail all the issues down to authenticity.
By that I mean the presentation of hallucinated, slop and garbage ‘generated’ by AI. We see the most negative comment around it and about AI art in particular. Is it a ‘displacer’ of an artist? Maybe.
I think, fine if it’s good and checked (Fate of All’s leader cards), garbage if it’s lazy (two Germans, one gun I saw recently), and the craft already went digital anyway (MacGowan’s photo-collage covers anybody?). A concession with a discerning eye is ok.
We are seeing more and more folks use AI as it summarizes and compares rules; but it should never house-rules for you. Play the designer’s intent, RAW, first. then by all means house rule, test it. Use AI for that or don’t, it is your game afterall.
How do I use AI tools?
For me it is my research assistant. A copy editor. Its a massive productivity enhancer. See header image of the Wiki I built, which is my data engine. -every AAR,video, book, note, website, notion, idea.
Professionally I have a decades long background in many segments of what used to be called EIS [Executive Information Systems], that now go by Data Analytics, or Knowledge Management. I was always helping companies find what I call synthesis. Or you might say relational cause and effect. Opportunities to reduce costs, sell more, add new products, kill crap ones etc.
Another way to look at AI tools, is to ask where you draw the ethical line?
Is it ‘did a machine touch it?’ If so, then what? – but wait, do we not use spell check? Does a photogher not take a picture because he used auto focus?

I see the question to be asking as :
“is there a real person with real expertise doing the creative work behind it?”
Fuck yeah there is.
In wargaming/blogging, Its a tool that digs into my 65gb reference library, every AAR, every video and helps me pull value added information out, and expand and enhance my posts. value added!
Everything is sourced, page cited quotes from books I own, all real. It adds truth, not manufactured slop.
No more ‘I think churchill said this, trust me its Kev’. I made my tools STOP guessing, a known AI fault.
It adds depth.
It allows exploration of ideas I have had for topics that are just too unweildy, too big, to ‘start’ let alone develop alone.
My work is AI-assisted and better-sourced than the guy next to me.
I’ll stand on that hill alone.
As my library grows that depth grows as well.
Where do you draw your line?
If there’s appetite, I’ll do a follow-up on how to spot the lazy, unoriginal AI stuff, because after a year of this I can smell it fast.
The Vid: Party tomorrow nite, and this AI thing:
My video and post are in essence saying the same thing.
