Pea Ridge – Battle Hymn

Please take a moment to just soak up some theme and images. I have 3 posts on this game. All are not text based. Just images.

The idea here is that given the limited time I played and the mixed feelings I had about the game I wanted to share more of the art work, and the flow of the game visually.

I played this as my 2nd tactical game ever played on the ACW.

It has its roots in SPI’s Blue & Gray I  believe. But with very obvious upgrades and sensibilities. It does however feel very much like a solid abstract representation of ACW tactical combat. Given my limited knowledge of the battle and the situation I feel poorly informed to make significant or pertinent comment on the system, balance or historicity.

I intend to seek out other titles in the series as they arise, in particular ones where I understand the battles a bit better or can at least have a solid layman’s appreciation.

So for now enjoy the images and what not. I did take notes. But really of the Battle Hymn system needs more work by me to appreciate. I can recount to the die roll, but I don’t believe I yet appreciate what I am playing here or the import of the results presented.

  1. Having played Thunder in the ozarks and having the most fun I’ve ever had playing a wargame… I doubt I wil try this one unless someone comes and sells it to me big time! 🙂

  2. I remain intrigued by this game as I think I like the system over that of CLASH OF GIANTS: CIVIL WAR implementation which is so heavily abstracted that I too have difficulty visualizing what is happening. This certainly has its fans.
