World at War 85:
A quick pictorial walk thru of this 1st session of Mohr’s Test.
Warsaw PAct objectives – exit units and take the village.
The key will be to keep enough dudes alive to do the exit and clear a path for that exit.
West German [WG] units deploy with overlapping fields of fire, and place a Platoon of tanks in an IP off the hill.
Here come the Czech!
They happen to also get the first card drawn.
The WG force sits tight.
The infantry force loaded on fast vehicles comes down a secondary route to flank.
Start of T3:
Jags, and Leos await the enemy infnatry.
The West Germans push up the Jaguar, really to screen the Leo’s and prevent any momentum or advantage to the Czech’s if they assault.
On the other side of the map teh reactive armor upgraded T-55’s close off the hill with the Leos.
ATGM’s take ranged shots and the Leopard 1A’s take advantage of the close in in shooting.
4 hits 4 saves… things are not going the WG way. But the card pulls are not helping WP forces either.
Leopards get the first kill.
Infantry rush the village.
in a swirling shooting fest the T55’s seem to overwhelm the out numbered Leo’s.
The quick advance tactics of the Czech, leaves some units Out of Command!
The team lead by Mohr, has waited and waited for the right time to unleash their arty. They do so!
The arty is effective, disruptions beleaguer the Czech forces and time is running out to capture the village AND exit.
Well that is handy for the NATO forces. These activation allow the Germans to pound on the Czechs.
With devastating effect.
Some WP forces rally and press home the attack despite the effects of the West German defensive fire.
Next Turn :
I mean really give me a break.
Note that the End Op card should not ahve gone back in the deck until the 2nd WP formation had activated. All in all it would not have made much difference given the body count on the T55’s is too high to allow the WP to win!
Insult to injury….
END GAME STATE.
Great article. Enjoyed the game.
