“Sarge I got a question, this bazooka aint gunna do nuthing against that there Panther” Said Toppen wistful “You know sarge, they really make that snow so muddy and nasty looking, tanks are messy Sarge.

“Fire the Gawd DARN Bazooka boy and SHADDUP for PETES SAKE!!”

While the Sarge dealt with our man Toppen, Lt Harris had his own problems. The main gun for fighting enemy tanks was exposed to small arms gunfire, and had no line of sight to the Panther.

The gun crew were braving bullets to move it into position. But would they be quick enough? It seemed for now the US/German soldiers had retreated back to the woodline and all of them were merely taking potshots.

This is not good mused Harris.

PooKabooom!, PooKaboom! The panthers distinctive pkow sound of firing echoed through mens ears.

Then the heavy chunka chunka of the 50 cal tore through building, bodies and snow alike. Under cover of the Panthers fire the Germans and their appropriated jeep were closing in on Harris.

“Keep firing at them men, if we can keep the enemy in that house, maybe some help will arrive in time!” Harris’s last words were drowned out by another massive explosion, in an adjacent building. pooKaboom!

Harris’s vision blurred, he heard thru the echos of the tank the cries of his men who were injured. “Get back on the gun!! Get back on the guns”

Neither side could fully suppress the other, as hundreds of rounds were fired by two very desperate teams. None gave an inch. “Keep it men, we are holding!”

The Pioneers swtiched targets as the AT gun came into view, the exposed soldiers pushing laboriously took cover where they could….Hunkered down they could make no more progress with the unwieldy ice cold hard tires.

The Pioneers crumbled unde rhte weight of the browning 30 cals relentless fire rate. Its tdadh tdadah sound, made soldiers duck for cover.

Above this sound came what Harris feared most. The rumble and whine of the Panthers motor and grinding churn of the tracks appraoching.

“Everybody…Get …..Down!!” Roared Harris

Stinging glass, wood splinters, mortar and blood filled the air. Everyones ears rang. Vision blurred. Disoriented the men crawled around looking for weapons, or worse still, body parts. Lif seeped away from a score of men.

Harris staggered over to the wounded 30 cal crew, and took up the position. He knew it was hopeless. But the enemy was now on the move. There would be no quarter if they got inside.

He fired wildly, conversely the crack pioneers fired carefully. They closed to finish deftly, smiling grimly at the helpless before finishing the off.

150 yards away Toppen looked on in dismay. “Sarge, Hey Sarge I think that new Lt bought it but good, Sarge?” Toppen turned, and saw the Sarge’s back slowing staining black-red. “Aww shit.”

The Germans had captured their objectives.

The next scenario takes on from here, and allows the Americans to recapture or attempt to recapture the objectives.

The critical moment!
