Warfare in December

Wissembourg  1793  French Revolutionary Wars (1st Coalition)

Days after defeat near Froeschwiller, Austrian General Dagobert Wurmser withdrew north to Wissembourg, on the Lauter, where he was again attacked by French commander Louis Lazare Hoche. Wurmser suffered heavy casualties
and, three days later, the invaders withdrew across the Rhine at Philippsburg, leaving France controlling the left bank of the Rhine (25–26  December 1793).
