The Final Gamble Wrap Up

We wrapped up last night and after posting some queries Kim Kanger alerted us to two miss fires. One the VM player could fight outside Divisional boundaries, which Pete did not do (he knew the rule just forgot…DORK). That was the biggie. The other secondarily was “box movement” this allows some off map moves for the Viet Minh player. This would force the French to man more strong points and therefore have less ready reaction force.

Then the staying power of the French is sorely tested, the Arty use goes up and the defensive situation becomes more precarious.  Supply issues should arise sooner also which seemed to be a problem here for us as the French were never making hard choices on supply.

Balance hopefully restored.

The game in the mid way mark during rain really sped up as Pete had to hold off attacking to rebuild Morale, this allowed some stock piling. But then came the pain:

Eliane was placed under great pressure,2014-10-09 16.35.18The 316th spun up isolating units, but a Bn level response cleared the hexes!

Tanks and the Battalion return to the Fire base and await the next emergency.

We called it here wondering what errors were made for the VM. Now we know and plan a rematch soon. These rules errors also will alleviate what I thought is a wash rinse repeat highly procedural game situation. The added flexibility to attack across divisional setup boundaries make for more tactical choices.2014-10-09 17.24.10
