TURN ONE

Weather Clear

Soviets are considered to have moved 10 MP.

Garrisons are Hedgehog except French

35th Mech declare an attack on FR Brigade, Supported by arty and 3 squadrons of Su 17m

FR “D” rated flak fail to hit anything.

Evasion 5, 3 squadrons-3 = net-1 [EV5=+2]

Combat: 32 Factors vs 2 But Soviets use Column Assault therefore combat is 50% of strength 16 V 2 for 3MP [errata 2?] .

Defence of Berlin is, +1 City+3 Minor river +2 Cadre rating net 4-4 =0 Attacker is +1 odds

1d20=6 resolved on the 5 row : D result stand and take 2 Step losses due to being a Brigade sized unit being attacked by a Division sized unit.

At this point the Fr destroy the Northern bridge. Soviet continues movement and attacks again. Soviet uses a standard assault [4MP] he is now at 7mp [or 6 if errata on table vs rule is right] rolls a 1d20 and get a 5. This time we have a +6 Combat Modifier row. Another D result and the 3rd step is lost, eliminating the FR unit. WE place a breakthru marker. Advancing into the breakthru hex costs extra movement points as well as crossing the river and triggers a Fatigued marker check.

25 v 3 = 8:1 using Standard Assault 100% of combat strength.

Terr in +3 HH +2 & Berlin mod +1 The Soviets take +1 for Fatigues level 1 & -1 for 1 odds level over 7:1.

Netting out to a 6 combat modifier. If the Soviet add Choppers they boost the odds and they translate to further modifiers since we are at max odds of 7:1 already.

They do so, luckily avoiding flak. This drops the combat modifier down to 3 row. They roll the 1d20 and rol a 15!! No!

A1. The Division takes a step loss for the A1 and 1 more for fighting in the city. We place a 3 market on it. This ends their movement.

Now the East Germans attack @ 6:1. They end up attacking on the +7 row and earn a contact. This ends their movement.

The 25th Armoured powers in with an 8:1 attack using an echelon attack. They earn a A1 but due to being an echelon attack they take an extra step also!

32nd Guard drives in with air losing a step to flak along the way.

They manage to push the attack to the 2 row, and roll a 10. This inflicts a 2 step loss on the US force. [edit, not that attack would have been done on the 4 row as we did not get concentric bonus in cities.]

32nd Guard attacks again, using 4mp. 23v 3 rolling a 4 puts this into D for a result on the 2-6 rows [some confusion here in my notes as to actual final row + we know I made an error counting concentric bonus.] Rolling low is GOOD!

They attack again, but this time just pick up a contact ending their movement, and they now have a Fatigue 1 marker.

TURN TWO

90G attacks. They attack with 42v3 at 14:1 that helps the Soviets with 7 shifts negating the defensive benefits of HH/City and Berlin dropping the column to 0. We do not add concentric attack bonus this time 😊. 1d20=7 and the last defender falls.

Soviets earn 60 VP for city hexes, and unit kills. The NATO side earns 12 VP for air and Soviet step losses. A net 48 VP for a Soviet Marginal victory.

Things to think about.

I should have suppressed enemy flak with SEAD missions prior to using choppers this would have saved VP’s.

Also the Warsaw Pact must bring mass to the battle field. It is incongruous, but you seek better than max odds to swing the excess to combat modifiers, which will negate the defenders Hedgehog, urban and city bonus’s.
